Well I am not sure if anyone on here has had or WILL have axle trouble but this past weekend I pulled the front axle out of my jeep and tore it all the way down to include taking the differential completely apart. After trying do a little research on what all it takes to dissemble one I still came up short and had to do a lot of trial and error. Hopefully this will help someone out there and if there are any further questions please let me know.
-The plug for the E locker on the inside of the axle will unplug from the plug located on the axle housing. I unbolted the plug from the housing then pulled the wire out until it came (mine took a little while and AOLT of cuss words)
-To pull the E locker off the diff assembly I used a wheel puller with three tines. Have someone hold the tines down while you slowly crank the puller. Also take small bumps with a hammer to help pull the locker so that it does not bend.
-As you pull apart the assemble ensure all shims are laid out in the order that they came out and if they go on left or right.
-If you order a bearing kit find out if it comes with shims. Mine did not but I was able to reuse the old ones.
-If you need to replace the bearings you can use a wheel puller to get them off. Then when you go to put the new one on if you do not have a press. I heated the bearings up in the oven at 350 degrees (while my wife was in town) for about 20 minutes. Then with a socket big enough to just go around the race hit the socket until the bearing is seated back on the diff
Believe me this is VERY easy don't be scared to get in there and try it. It helps a lot to have another set of hands to give you a hand and help you remember how everything goes. If you have any further questions or need help just give a call. 601-794-7741
Give me a little while I have to pull my transfer case because I don't have four low right now and I think that's were the gravel sound is coming from
